These are detail shots of Jan Dobkowski’s painting Oddech [Breath] (1968), which I saw at the Vancouver Art Gallery in April of 2025. Immediately I was drawn to the edges of piece, framed with strips of wood nailed to the edge of the canvas. The unadorned simplicity of the woodwork here has inspired me to fashion similar wood frames for my paintings.
